WHO AM I
Rivka on the Road... this blog will give you an insight in my life. To keep my friends and family up to date I made this blog. I love to travel, explore the world. I like to see new places, meet new people, get to know new cultures.
I often think about things and overthink them. This can be a negative point but it also gives me more understanding on certain topics. I am a dreamer, I have high ambitions they get changed sometimes but I hope I will always be true to myself.
"If you can imagine it you can achieve it. If you can dream it you can become it."
So who am I?
At this moment I am a Master's candidate in International Humanitarian Action. My home university is the Rijksuniversiteit in Groningen and I specialized in the role of institutions in humanitarian action at Rühr-Universitat in Bochum.
Why this study?
During the years 2008/2009 I became youth ambassador for the NGO World Vision. This year included a project trip to Ethiopia, to whitness the impact of Hiv/AIDS on the daily life of families, besides this trip we did a college tour to explain to children this impact.
This journey to Ethipia had a big influence on me, and after this I knew for sure I wanted to study in the field of development. The most and only reason is I want to help people who are less fortunate then me. I am luckily born in the Netherlands in a happy family. In really cliché words: I just want to make the world a better place :).
So I started my study (International Development) in Wageningen. Joined a student association and sorority, learned a lot and made friends for life! I took a board year withing AIESEC, this is a international student network. AIESEC provides interships all over the world for studends and offers opportunities to develop leadership potential. Ofcourse I learned a lot, a lot is even an understatement. I further developed myself and get to know myself even better. From this years in AIESEC I learned that you can achieve great things and that stepping out of your comfort zone is giving you the best moments. Another quote is suitable for this situation:
"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

I gained deep interest in emergency relief and its devotion to increase the resilience and capacity of people affected by crises, therefory I enrolled in the Master International Humanitarian Action. Throughout my studies and my journeys abroad I hope to increase my knowledge and contribute to make the humanitarian sector more efficient and effective!
